Atlas Air acquires 49% stake in Air Atlanta to expand global aviation reach
Atlas Air Worldwide has agreed to buy a 49% stake in Air Atlanta, a global cargo and passenger airline. The deal, expected to complete in late 2026, will expand Atlas’ reach in international aviation markets. Air Atlanta’s current management will keep a majority share and continue leading the business as usual. The transaction involves Atlas acquiring the minority stake through its Titan Aviation Holdings subsidiary. As part of the agreement, Titan will also purchase and lease back aircraft currently owned by Air Atlanta. This includes a fleet of 14 wide-body freighters and four Boeing 777 passenger planes.
Regulatory approvals and standard closing conditions must be met before the deal finalises in the third quarter of 2026. Air Atlanta’s existing leadership team will retain a 51% controlling interest, ensuring no changes to day-to-day operations. Michael Steen, CEO of Atlas Air Worldwide, highlighted that the move supports the company’s *One Atlas* strategy. The partnership aims to boost both firms’ positions in the global aviation sector by combining resources and expertise.
Once completed, the deal will give Atlas greater access to wide-body aircraft capacity in key international routes. Air Atlanta will maintain its operational independence while benefiting from Atlas’ broader network. The collaboration is designed to strengthen both companies’ competitiveness in the long term.
