Bavaria tests discounted Germany ticket for all students - Bavaria extends €365 student travel pass through 2027 for affordable commutes

Students and trainees in Bavaria will retain their affordable travel option for years to come. The €365 annual pass for buses and trains has been extended until summer 2027, ensuring continued low-cost transport across several regional networks.

The existing €365 pass already covers many young people in parts of Bavaria, sitting alongside free school transport, which numerous pupils use for daily commutes. Now, the state government wants to expand the scheme further.

Transport Minister Christian Bernreiter has been asked to draw up plans for a statewide rollout, aiming to make the pass available to all eligible students and trainees. Meanwhile, discussions are underway about introducing a discounted Deutschlandticket for schoolchildren.

Currently, the standard Deutschlandticket costs €63 per month. A reduced rate of €43 already applies to trainees, students, and volunteers. The new proposals could extend similar savings to younger pupils.

The extended €365 pass will remain valid in multiple Bavarian transport networks until 2027. If the discounted Deutschlandticket for schoolchildren goes ahead, even more families could see transport costs fall. The government's plans aim to keep travel affordable for young people across the region.
