Berlin-Oslo direct rail service to launch in summer 2028
A new direct rail service linking Berlin to Oslo will begin in summer 2028. The route will pass through Hamburg, Copenhagen, Malmö, and Gothenburg, offering passengers a long-distance connection across four countries. The project is part of a wider European push to improve cross-border train travel. The Berlin-Oslo line will run two daily return trips, with each journey taking between 14 and 15 hours. The service is a collaboration between Deutsche Bahn and the national railways of Denmark and Norway.
This route is one of ten pilot projects backed by the European Commission to boost international rail connections. The aim is to make long-distance train travel more reliable and attractive across the continent.
Once operational, the service will provide a direct link between Germany, Denmark, Sweden, and Norway. The twice-daily trains are expected to strengthen transport ties between the cities involved. The project aligns with broader efforts to expand sustainable cross-border rail networks in Europe.
