Berlin's Free Travel Assistance Service Ensures Accessibility for All Passengers

The Verkehrsverbund Berlin-Brandenburg (VBB) provides a free travel assistance service for passengers who need extra support. Available daily from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM, it helps seniors, wheelchair users, and those with mobility, sensory, or anxiety-related challenges navigate Berlin's buses and trains. The service even covers trips to and from Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER).

To use the service, passengers must book at least one week in advance or by the day before their trip. Reservations can be made by phone (Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM) or online at any time. When scheduling, travellers provide their name, pickup address, contact number, destination, preferred time, and the type of assistance required.

A trained assistant in a clearly marked uniform will meet the passenger at their door. They accompany them throughout the journey, offering support with ticket machines if needed. The service ensures a smooth trip, including a return home if requested.

The assistance is entirely free, though passengers must hold a valid VBB ticket. While exact staffing numbers for 2024 remain unclear, the service remains available across all of Berlin, catering to a wide range of needs.

This VBB initiative removes barriers for those who struggle with independent travel. By offering door-to-door support, it ensures greater accessibility on public transport. The service operates daily, with bookings open well in advance to accommodate all users.
