S-Bahn line in the southeast to be closed for weeks

Berlin's S-Bahn halts southeast services for three weeks of upgrades

Berlin’s S-Bahn network will face major disruptions in the southeast of the city for over three weeks. Deutsche Bahn is carrying out extensive construction work, leading to a complete shutdown of services on a key stretch of the line. From Friday evening until July 6, no trains will run between Altglienicke, Grünau, Spindlersfeld, Schöneweide, and Baumschulenweg stations. The work centres on upgrading the electronic signal box at Schöneweide station.

The project involves laying around 256,000 metres of new signalling cable. Over 360 signals and markers will also be installed as part of the modernisation effort. Deutsche Bahn has confirmed the shutdown is necessary to complete the upgrades efficiently. Commuters in the affected areas will need to plan alternative routes during the closure.

The improvements aim to enhance the reliability and safety of the S-Bahn network. Once completed, the upgraded system will support smoother operations on this busy section of the line. Passengers should check for replacement services or alternative connections during the work period.
