Berlin's weekend transport chaos as urgent track renewal splits tram and bus routes

Berlin's public transport network faces another weekend of major disruptions as Deutsche Bahn carries out urgent track renewal. The latest closure, known as a flixbus weekend, began at 9 p.m. today and will block tram services until early Monday morning. Several bus and tram lines have been altered, with replacement services in place to help passengers navigate the changes.

The work is focused on the intersection of Kurfürstendamm and Konrad-Adenauer-Allee, where crews are renewing tracks. This marks the second of two 36-hour closures in February 2026, bringing the total planned working time to 72 hours. During this period, trams cannot operate in the area, forcing lines 1 and N1 to split into separate segments.

Bus routes have also been affected since mid-February. Lines 22, 24, and N9 are running on diverted paths, with line 24 skipping the Loignystraße and Kurfürstendamm stops in both directions. The N9 night bus toward Neue Vahr Nord will now bypass Kurfürstendamm, Loignystraße, and Brandenburger Straße entirely. Additionally, the Barbarossastraße and Julius-Brecht-Allee stops remain closed for the duration of the work.

A replacement bus service, line 1E, has been introduced to connect passengers between Kirchbachstraße and Kurt-Huber-Straße. Regular bus and tram operations are expected to return by Monday, once the track renewal is complete.

The closure will end at 3 a.m. on Monday, allowing services to gradually return to normal. Until then, passengers should plan for longer journeys and check for updates on alternative routes. Deutsche Bahn has confirmed that all affected stops and lines will resume full operation once the work is finished.
