Bhopal's industries struggle as Middle East conflict spikes import costs

Businesses in Bhopal are facing rising costs due to the ongoing Middle East conflict. The prices of imported chemicals, polymers, and packaging materials have surged by up to 50%, disrupting local industries. Companies now struggle with higher production expenses and reduced sales. The conflict has pushed up the cost of chemicals imported for Bhopal's industries by 30% to 50%. Plastic manufacturers, in particular, are hit hard, with polymer prices rising by 50%. This has forced the selling price of plastic pipes to jump from around Rs 550 to Rs 800, leading to a sharp drop in sales.

Khadyot Naturals Private Limited has seen its packaging costs climb by 25% because of pricier imports from Gulf countries. As a result, the company has paused two international orders. Meanwhile, transportation costs for exports from Bhopal have doubled or tripled, as ships take longer routes to avoid conflict zones.

Many industrial units now fear closure if essential supplies like LPG are delayed. Business owners are also finding it harder to maintain liquidity, with rising production costs and loan repayments adding to the pressure. The Middle East conflict continues to strain Bhopal's industries, with higher raw material and transport costs cutting into profits. Without stable supply chains or alternative sourcing, more businesses may face shutdowns or further financial strain.
