Potsdam (dpa/bb) – Fresh asphalt, root removal, and wider lanes for cyclists: Several kilometers of cycle paths across Brandenburg are currently being refurbished, with work expected to wrap up by summer at the latest. This season, multiple restoration and expansion projects are underway, according to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Planning.
A five-kilometer stretch along Federal Highway 102 in the Havelland district is being widened—between Premnitz and Rathenow, the path will expand to 2.5 meters wide for cyclists. Following this, plans call for the cycle route through Mögelin to be renovated. All work is slated for completion by July.
Roadworkers Mill Away Asphalt in Oder-Spree
Since early March, crews have been resurfacing the asphalt along Federal Highway 246 in the Oder-Spree district. The cycle path between Storkow and Wendisch Rietz is receiving a new base and top layer, the ministry stated. The five-kilometer route should be rideable again by mid-May.
Entirely new cycle paths are being constructed along State Roads 202 and 20 in the Havelland district, with work expected to finish by late May. The existing routes had been so severely damaged by roots that reinforcement was necessary to prevent further breakage. Once complete, the new paths will span roughly 2.7 kilometers from the roundabout at L202 and Brieselang to the junction with L201, as well as along L20 between Falkensee and Schönwalde.
According to the ministry, Brandenburg's network of cycle paths along federal and state roads stretches approximately 2,100 kilometers, in addition to dedicated tourist routes.
