Braunschweig's Schoduvel Parade Brings Massive Transport Changes on February 15
Braunschweig is preparing for its annual Schoduvel carnival parade, set to take place on Sunday, February 15. The event, known as the largest carnival parade in northern Germany, draws over 300,000 spectators each year. This year's celebrations will follow the motto Leiwe Jecken, leiwe Lüe, et is mal weer Schoduvel-Tiet, reflecting the city's deep-rooted carnival traditions in the Löwenstadt.
To accommodate the parade, several changes to public transport will be in effect. Bus line 620 will be rerouted, with services to Braunschweig detouring via the A39 highway. Passengers will instead use a temporary stop on Kurt-Schumacher-Straße.
Multiple tram and bus stops will remain closed for the day. Affected locations include Fabrikstraße, Helenenstraße, Cyriaksring, Europlatz, Am Wassertor, Fr.-Wilhelm-Platz, Rathaus (City Hall), and Schloss (Castle). Travellers can transfer to alternative services at John-F.-Kennedy-Platz, though minor delays or adjustments are likely.
For those returning to Salzgitter, buses will depart from a temporary stop at John-F.-Kennedy-Platz. The regular route will then resume at BS-Rüningen, Zollkamp.
The Schoduvel parade will bring major transport adjustments to Braunschweig on February 15. With over 300,000 visitors expected, the city has planned detours and temporary stops to keep services running. Passengers are advised to check updates and allow extra travel time during the event.
