Brookfield Renewable hits $1.3B FFO with record 8 GW energy capacity growth
Brookfield Renewable has reported strong financial growth in 2025, with funds from operations (FFO) rising to $1.3 billion. This marks a 10% increase from the previous year, driven by higher demand for clean energy. The company also set a new record by adding 8 gigawatts (GW) of energy capacity last year.
The company's legacy hydroelectric business performed particularly well, generating $607 million in FFO—a 19% jump from 2024. Higher revenue and stronger power generation fueled this growth. At the same time, Brookfield's distributed energy, storage, and sustainable solutions platform saw an even sharper rise, with FFO reaching $614 million, up nearly 90% year-over-year.
Brookfield has secured a major deal to supply Google with up to 3 GW of hydropower. The surge in demand from data centre developers has boosted the company's prospects. Additionally, Brookfield is developing a battery storage project to help stabilise a national power grid.
Looking ahead, the firm plans to expand its energy capacity by 10 GW annually until 2027. Investments in renewables, storage, and grid optimisation will support this growth. Analysts expect Brookfield to increase FFO per share by over 10% each year through at least 2030, allowing for steady dividend growth of 5% to 9% annually.
Brookfield Renewable aims to deliver mid-teens annualised total returns for investors in the coming years. With rising demand for hydropower and new infrastructure projects, the company is positioning itself for long-term expansion. The focus remains on scaling energy capacity while maintaining strong financial performance.
