Bukit Kiara residents fight back against 30-storey condo development plans

Plans for two 30-storey condominiums near Taman Persekutuan Bukit Kiara have sparked opposition from local residents. Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has already set a 300-metre buffer zone around the proposed site, but campaigners are pushing for a larger protected area between 300 and 500 metres. Residents in Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI) have raised concerns over the development’s impact on traffic and the park’s ecosystem. Their objections led to a town hall meeting on April 12, where a petition was launched to expand the buffer zone.

The project remains under review, with no development order issued yet. An environmental impact assessment is currently part of the approval process. Meanwhile, negotiations between DBKL and the developer are ongoing. In August 2022, Friends of Bukit Kiara (FoBK) filed a judicial review to block City Hall from approving the project. The Kuala Lumpur High Court granted leave for the review the following month, allowing the case to proceed.

The proposed condominiums face legal and public resistance before any construction can begin. DBKL’s existing 300-metre buffer zone may still be extended, depending on the outcome of the judicial review and resident pressure. The final decision will determine whether the development moves forward or is halted.
