Bulgarian Firm Secures Cross-Border Wind Energy Deal in Romania
Etem Gestamp and Rezolv Energy have agreed a 10-year virtual power purchase deal (VPPA) for a major wind farm in Romania. The contract covers electricity from the 461MW VIFOR project in Buzău County. It marks Rezolv Energy's first PPA of 2026 and Etem Gestamp's third overall. Under the agreement, Etem Gestamp will purchase power from Rezolv Energy's VIFOR wind farm. The site is under construction and follows strict environmental and social sustainability standards. Once operational, it will generate enough clean energy to supply over 270,000 households and cut around 540,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually.
This deal is the first publicly announced cross-border wind PPA for a Bulgarian company. It adds to Etem Gestamp's existing renewable energy contracts, including a 10-year solar PPA signed in Bulgaria back in 2022. The new wind agreement will work alongside the firm's solar power supply, helping it reach a target of 70% renewable energy in its mix by 2027.
Rezolv Energy has now secured seven PPAs across Romania and Bulgaria, including a recent deal with Bekaert in 2024. The company also has two major projects in development: Phase 2 of the VIFOR wind farm (269MW) and the Dama Solar project (up to 1.3GW) in Arad County. No further large-scale wind or solar plants are planned for Bulgaria beyond existing projects like St. George. The VPPA strengthens Etem Gestamp's renewable energy strategy while supporting Rezolv Energy's expansion in Romania. The VIFOR wind farm will play a key role in reducing carbon emissions and increasing clean power capacity. Both companies have outlined further projects to boost their sustainability goals in the coming years.
