Bypass Road undergoes 459-million-ruble upgrade for smoother travel

A major upgrade of the Bypass Road is now underway, with crews working to improve the 4-to-9-kilometre stretch. The project, costing over 459 million rubles, aims to enhance a key route used by both locals and tourists. Funding comes from federal and regional budgets under the national programme Infrastructure for Life. Work on the Bypass Road began with earlier upgrades to the first three kilometres, where a gravel surface was replaced with asphalt concrete. Last year, another section—from 9 to 13 kilometres—was also repaired, with fresh asphalt laid down.

The current phase focuses on fixing frost heaves, installing geogrids for stability, and adding new culverts. These improvements follow previous renovations and are set to finish by the end of October. Once complete, the entire road will be fully modernised by the end of the year. The Bypass Road plays a vital role in the region, linking two major highways: Sharypovo–Uzhur–Balakhta and Achinsk–Uzhur–Troitskoye. Its condition affects travel for both daily commuters and visitors heading to popular destinations.

The project will deliver a smoother, more durable road by late 2024. With federal and regional support, the upgrades aim to reduce wear and improve safety. The completed work will benefit drivers, businesses, and tourists relying on this essential route.
