Cascais Line Faces Months of Rail Disruptions for Major Upgrades

Major upgrade work will disrupt rail services on the Cascais Line from Monday, April 6. The project, lasting until January 2026, aims to replace the electrification system, install new signalling technology, and modernise operational equipment. Passengers should expect changes to schedules and platform assignments during this period. Starting April 6, trains between Caxias and Cascais will face regular closures. On weekdays, full shutdowns will occur between 9:50 PM and 2:35 AM. On Sundays, disruptions will take place from 5:30 AM to 8:40 AM and again from 7:50 PM to 2:35 AM the next day. Additionally, on Sunday, April 12, services between São Pedro do Estoril and Cascais will operate on a single track, causing further delays.

A replacement bus service will run during these outages, stopping at key stations along the route. CP – Comboios de Portugal has set up real-time updates on its website to keep travellers informed. The 12-month project is part of broader modernisation plans, with similar works expected on the Northern Line (Porto to Braga), Minho Line (Valença to Porto), and Algarve Line (Faro to Lagos) in the coming years. The upgrades will bring new signalling and electrification systems to the Cascais Line by early 2026. Until then, passengers must plan for altered schedules and temporary bus replacements. CP's online updates will provide the latest information to minimise travel disruptions.
