Cebu launches Tabang PangByahe to revolutionize bus travel efficiency

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) and Cebu Province have launched the Tabang PangByahe initiative to improve bus travel. The programme aims to provide fast, comfortable, and reliable services along key routes in Cebu. A ₱20 million fund has been allocated to support participating bus companies in the region. President Bongbong Marcos, DOTr Secretary Giovanni Lopez, and LTFRB Chairman Vigor Mendoza II chose Cebu as the pilot site for the scheme. Governor Pamela Baricuatro led the local implementation, while Baguio Mayor Benjie Magalong and Vice President Leni Robredo are preparing similar rollouts in their areas.

The service operates on two initial routes: from IT Park in Cebu City to Danao City in the north, and from Cebu South Bus Terminal to Simala in Sibonga to the south. Buses run every 15 to 20 minutes, from 5:00 AM to 12:00 midnight, regardless of passenger numbers.

Passengers must board only at designated stops and follow a strict no-overloading rule. Regular fares apply, but discounts are available for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and students. Cebu is the first province to adopt the Tabang PangByahe system. Baguio City and Naga City in Bicol are next in line to introduce the service. The initiative seeks to enhance public transport efficiency and accessibility in these areas.
