NVV Criticizes Rail Chaos on Main-Weser Line - Chaos on Frankfurt-Kassel trains as construction delays stretch into second week

Passengers travelling between Kassel and Frankfurt are facing severe disruptions as construction work on the Main-Weser-Bahn enters its second week. Trains are overcrowded, delays are widespread, and some travellers are being left behind at stations due to the ongoing works.

Deutsche Bahn announced cancellations on the Frankfurt-Kassel route earlier this month, citing necessary construction from 6 March to 27 March 2026. To limit disruption, the company has reduced services to a single track on weekdays, replaced trains with buses on weekends, and rerouted ICE line 26 via Fulda—skipping stops at Wabern, Treysa, Marburg (Lahn), and Gießen.

Despite these measures, passengers between Schwalmstadt-Treysa and Kassel report chaotic conditions. Overcrowded trains, partial cancellations, and lengthy delays have become routine. Many travellers have been unable to board services, forcing them to wait for later connections or find alternative transport. The North Hessian Transport Association (NVV) has condemned Deutsche Bahn's handling of the situation, labelling it 'unacceptable'. The group is now demanding urgent action from DB InfraGo to end what it calls 'intolerable conditions' for commuters. The aim remains to restore a reliable, predictable timetable on the affected stretch.

Construction on the Main-Weser-Bahn is scheduled to continue until 27 March. Until then, passengers will rely on replacement buses, rerouted trains, and reduced services. Deutsche Bahn has yet to announce further changes to ease the ongoing travel difficulties.
