Chemnitz City Railway leases backup trains to cut delays on RB 92 route
To ensure operational reliability, Chemnitz City Railway (City-Bahn Chemnitz GmbH) has temporarily expanded its fleet by leasing two Regio-Shuttle RS1 trains. According to a recent company statement, the additional vehicles will help maintain schedule stability in the event of bottlenecks caused by maintenance or servicing of its existing fleet.
Managing Director Friedbert Straube explained that the move aims to prevent potential service disruptions. The two trains will be kept on standby as reserves, deployed when regular units are out of service or required for training runs.
The first deployment took place on Wednesday, February 18, on the RB 92 line between Glauchau and Stollberg/Erzgebirge. The leased railcars, painted in yellow, white, and black, are provided by HEROS Rail Rent, a company based in Fürth.
In the long term, the additional reserve capacity is also expected to enable the C15 line to resume full service to Technopark. Currently, trains on this route—coming from Hainichen—terminate at Chemnitz Central Station. A timeline for this extension has yet to be announced.
