Chur's railway station undergoes major accessibility upgrades by November
Chur's railway station square is set for major upgrades to improve accessibility. The work will take place in several stages, running until the end of November. Currently, the platforms and bus stops do not meet Switzerland's Disability Discrimination Act standards.
Construction begins on February 23 with the renovation of the eastern platform section. This phase is expected to finish by mid-April.
From April 19 to May 11, the edges of platforms for tracks 1 and 2 will be rebuilt to allow stop and shop boarding. During this period, trains on the Arosa line will be replaced by buses for three weeks. Later stages will focus on raising the edges of bus stops to remove height differences.
As of November 2023, only 48 of the RhB's 104 stations had been upgraded to meet accessibility laws. The ongoing work in Chur aims to address these gaps.
The upgrades will ensure barrier-free access for passengers using the station. Once complete, the changes will bring Chur's platforms and bus stops in line with legal requirements. The project is scheduled to finish by late November.
