City battles relentless flooding as crews pump thousands of cubic meters
Heavy flooding has struck parts of the city again this season, forcing crews to take urgent action. Up to ten vacuum tankers are now working around the clock to clear water from key areas. The effort follows years of similar challenges, with 12 road sections hit by flooding before 2026. In the past 24 hours alone, over 1,000 cubic meters of water have been pumped out. Since the start of this season, the total has reached more than 5,000 cubic meters. Teams are focusing first on streets used by buses, trolleybuses, and trams, as well as zones at high risk of further flooding.
Flooding has affected several locations, including the SibNIISKhoz stop, the area near the Metro supermarket, and Bogdan Khmelnitsky Street. Chelyuskintsev Street and the intersections of Marshal Zhukov with Mayakovsky Street and Krasnykh Zory Street have also seen standing water. Ten sections of tram tracks have already been submerged this year.
Municipal electric transport specialists are keeping a close watch on water levels across the city. Road maintenance and urban improvement crews are leading the pump-out operations. When needed, extra staff and equipment are brought in under contract to speed up the work. The city's response involves continuous monitoring and rapid water removal. With vacuum tankers deployed and priority routes cleared first, transport disruption is being kept to a minimum. The ongoing efforts aim to reduce risks for residents and keep essential services running smoothly.
