City Unveils Ambitious Mobility 2040 Master Plan for Sustainable Transport
A new initiative is underway to shape the future of local transport. The city has begun developing the Mobility 2040 Master Plan, designed to create a more sustainable, modern, and people-focused system. The first public event to introduce the project will take place on March 19, 2026, at the House of Encounter.
The project kicked off with the first meeting of the Advisory Council on January 27, 2026, at City Hall. This council includes 20 randomly chosen citizens alongside 20 representatives from different stakeholder groups. Their role is to bring a wide range of perspectives into the planning process.
Three external specialist firms are also involved in crafting the master plan. The final version is expected to receive approval in spring 2027. While many German cities have long-term mobility goals, this initiative stands out for its structured public engagement and clear timeline.
The upcoming Mobility Forum on March 19, 2026, at 5:30 PM will serve as the official public launch. The event aims to inform residents about the plan's objectives and gather early feedback.
The Mobility 2040 Master Plan seeks to transform how people move around the city. By combining expert input with community involvement, the project aims to deliver a practical and forward-looking transport strategy. The finalised plan will be put into action once adopted in early 2027.
