Craft Your Own Fair-Trade Body Butter at Café féminin's Sustainable Workshop
Café féminin is hosting a cosmetics workshop on March 9 for women interested in sustainable skincare. The event will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. and focus on making plastic-free, fragrant body butter. Participants are encouraged to bring their own containers to take home their creations.
The workshop will be led by Laura Lenders, an Environmental Consultant at the Consumer Advice Center in Langenfeld. Attendees will craft their own solid body butter using organic and fair-trade ingredients. A label listing all components will be provided to attach to their containers, which can also be decorated on-site.
Café féminin regularly hosts themed sessions for women on the second Monday of each month. Previous topics have included women's health, work-life balance, relaxation techniques, menopause, and cultural discussions.
Many of the ingredients used in the workshop come from countries in the Global South, where workers—often women and single mothers—face challenging conditions. Seven key suppliers, including Peru, Bolivia, India, Madagascar, Ghana, Burkina Faso, and Sri Lanka, provide raw materials like cocoa, shea butter, and oils. By choosing fair-trade products, the workshop supports better wages and working conditions for these producers.
The March 9 workshop offers a hands-on way to learn about sustainable self-care. Participants will leave with a homemade product and a better understanding of fair-trade practices. The event aligns with Café féminin's mission to empower women through education and ethical consumer choices.
