Davao City rolls out 20 new electric buses to boost public transport
Davao City is expanding its public transport with 20 new electric buses. The purchase aims to meet rising demand for reliable services under the Davao City Interim Bus Service (DIBS). Launched in December 2025, the programme will soon grow its fleet to 30 vehicles once the new units arrive by late 2026. The city government has set aside ₱200 million for the project. This covers the 20 electric buses and a digital monitoring system to track operations. Each new unit can carry 90 passengers, including 46 seated, two reserved for persons with disabilities (PWDs), and 15 standing.
The buses will feature ramps for wheelchair access and bike racks for cyclists. They will operate from Monday to Saturday during peak hours, stopping at 124 designated points across the city.
Alongside the buses, the city is building charging stations, depots, and garage facilities. These additions will support the electric fleet and ensure smooth daily operations. Once delivered in December 2026, the new buses will bring the total fleet to 30. The expansion is designed to improve transport reliability for Dabawenyos. Charging infrastructure and digital tracking will further enhance service efficiency.
