Train cancellations between Chemnitz and Elsterwerda - Deutsche Bahn disrupts late-night train services for upgrades next weekend

Train services between Chemnitz and Elsterwerda will face disruptions next weekend due to planned infrastructure work. The upgrades, carried out by Deutsche Bahn's subsidiary DB InfraGo, will affect late-evening journeys from February 20 to 27, 2026. Passengers on the RB 45 line should prepare for changes to their usual routes.

The RB 45 service between Riesa and Elsterwerda will be particularly impacted during late-night hours from Friday to Sunday. Several trains on this route will be cancelled, leaving passengers to rely on alternative transport. Bus replacement services, known as Schienenersatzverkehr, will operate in place of the affected connections.

Passengers travelling between Chemnitz and Elsterwerda will need to change at Riesa station. The disruptions are part of wider upgrades to improve the rail network, though exact details of the work have not been specified. Deutsche Bahn has advised travellers to check schedules in advance and allow extra time for their journeys.

The changes will remain in effect until February 27, with normal services expected to resume the following week.

The temporary closures aim to modernise the railway infrastructure along this route. Until then, passengers must use replacement buses and plan for transfers at Riesa. Updated timetables and further travel information are available through Deutsche Bahn's official channels.
