Hanau-Fulda Construction - Train Closes Line for Months in 2027 - Deutsche Bahn shuts Kinzigtal route for six months of major upgrades

Deutsche Bahn has announced a major renovation of the Kinzigtal railway corridor between Hanau and Fulda. The work, scheduled from August 13, 2027, to February 4, 2028, will see a full closure of the line to minimise long-term disruptions. Local and long-distance services will be affected during this period.

The project will focus on upgrading over 40 heavily used rail sections, including tracks, sleepers, ballast, and signalling systems. Switches, control technology, and station facilities will also be modernised as part of the overhaul. Deutsche Bahn aims to complete the entire renewal in one continuous closure rather than multiple smaller interruptions.

Stations along the route, including Wirtheim, Bad Soden-Salmünster, Steinau, Schlüchtern, and Flieden, will receive new platforms, weather shelters, and improved accessibility features. The upgrades are designed to enhance passenger experience and operational efficiency. During construction, local rail services between Langenselbold and Fulda will be replaced by buses. Long-distance trains will be rerouted to avoid the affected corridor, ensuring minimal disruption to wider travel networks.

The six-month closure will allow Deutsche Bahn to fully renew critical infrastructure in a shorter timeframe. Once completed, the upgrades will support smoother and more reliable rail services along the Hanau–Fulda route. Passengers are advised to plan ahead for alternative transport during the works.
