Despite Record Construction Sites: Rail Infrastructure Chief Aims for 60% Punctuality - Deutsche Bahn targets 60% punctuality with massive rail upgrades by 2026
Deutsche Bahn has set a new target for long-distance train punctuality this year. The company aims to raise the rate to at least 60% and keep it steady throughout 2024. Passengers have already seen improvements in areas where major upgrades have taken place.
The push for better punctuality is led by Philipp Nagl, head of DB InfraGO AG, the subsidiary managing Germany’s rail infrastructure. Last year, Deutsche Bahn completed around 26,000 upgrade projects, investing €19 billion in tracks, stations, and overhead lines.
By 2026, the number of construction sites will rise to roughly 28,000. These projects will focus on renewing tracks, rails, and stations to reduce airport delays. The goal is to stabilise punctuality by then and create a stronger foundation for future service.
Early results show progress in regions where construction has been finished. Trains are running more reliably, and officials expect further gains as upgrades continue.
The 60% punctuality target marks a key step for Deutsche Bahn in 2024. With ongoing investments and thousands of planned construction sites, the company intends to lock in improvements by 2026. Passengers can expect fewer delays as the upgrades take effect.
