Deutsche Bahn to close two major rail routes for months in 2027
Deutsche Bahn has announced major modernisation works on two key railway routes. The upgrades aim to boost punctuality and reliability on some of Germany’s busiest lines. Both projects will involve full closures for several months in 2027. The railway line between Lehrte and Berlin will shut down completely from 5 February to 10 December 2027. The closure covers a 227-kilometre stretch and will last ten months. During this time, crews will replace switches, tracks, and noise barriers along the route.
Another full closure is planned for the Bremen-Bremerhaven line. This work will run from 9 July to 11 December 2027. Like the first project, it will include extensive renewals to infrastructure. Deutsche Bahn will release further details about the construction timelines and alternative transport soon. The modernisation is expected to reduce delays and improve service on these heavily used connections.
