Increased Capacity Without Renovation: DSV Automates Venlo Warehouse with 100 Robots

DSV's Venlo warehouse embraces robotic automation for faster fulfillment

DSV has installed Exotec’s Skypod robotic system at its logistics centre in Venlo, the Netherlands. The move aims to maintain current service standards while expanding capacity for future growth. The facility now uses cutting-edge automation to improve efficiency in fulfillment services. The Skypod system was designed by Exotec for environments where speed, accuracy, and scalability are essential. It operates on a goods-to-person basis, bringing requested items straight to picking stations. This setup reduces manual handling and boosts productivity.

The Venlo site now runs around 100 autonomous robots working alongside roughly 90,000 bins and trays. An extra intermediate level handles returns processing, with automated tasks for opening, closing, and labelling boxes. These features help streamline operations and adapt to changing demand.

DSV is rolling out automated storage and material handling systems across its centres. The goal is to standardise workflows and better serve retail clients. The system allows the company to respond more flexibly to fluctuating order volumes and shifting product ranges. The new system is expected to support DSV’s growth in fulfillment services. It combines automation with scalable solutions to meet client needs. Jan Heijblom, Senior Sales Executive at Exotec Benelux, confirmed the company’s satisfaction in supporting DSV’s Venlo operations.
