Dubai races toward 100% clean energy by 2050 with DEWA's bold push
Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is accelerating its push for clean energy as part of the city’s sustainability goals. The organisation’s efforts align with broader strategies to cut carbon emissions and boost renewable power by 2050. DEWA’s clean energy projects now make up over 21.5% of its total energy capacity. This progress supports the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, both aiming for 100% clean energy within three decades.
The authority’s work follows the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who has emphasised sustainability as a key priority. DEWA plays a leading role in Dubai’s transition to a green economy, expanding renewable projects and promoting environmental responsibility. On World Environment Day, DEWA reinforced its commitment by raising awareness about sustainable practices. The event highlighted the importance of shifting toward cleaner energy sources and reducing carbon footprints.
DEWA’s current clean energy share stands at more than a fifth of its total output. The organisation continues to scale up renewable projects in line with Dubai’s long-term climate targets. These steps move the city closer to its goal of net zero emissions by mid-century.
