Duyog Awards to Honor Unsung Heroes of Grassroots Sustainability in 2026

A new environmental awards programme, the Duyog Awards, will launch on March 30, 2026. The initiative aims to spotlight grassroots efforts in sustainability and conservation that often go unnoticed. Nine awardees will be honoured at the inaugural ceremony on April 24, 2026 for their work in areas like coastal protection, forest conservation, and policy advocacy. The awards take inspiration from existing programmes such as the Lunhaw Awards and Banwa Awards. Unlike larger-scale recognitions, the Duyog Awards focus specifically on community-led projects that drive real change at the local level.

The name *Duyog*—meaning collaboration—reflects the programme's core mission: celebrating collective action. Organisers encourage nominations from grassroots groups like barangay associations and people's organisations. By documenting and sharing best practices, the initiative hopes to help other communities replicate successful strategies. Beyond recognition, the awards seek to institutionalise support for environmental advocates. Strengthening partnerships between communities, stakeholders, and investors is a key goal. Organisers also believe the programme could boost tourism and funding for sustainable projects in the long run.

The Duyog Awards will formally begin with its launch event on March 30, 2026, followed by the first ceremony a month later. Winners will be selected across nine categories, with their work serving as models for future conservation efforts. The programme's focus on grassroots collaboration aims to create lasting impact in environmental protection.
