EnBW's fleet expansion drives electrification and decentralized operations forward

EnBW has significantly expanded its vehicle fleet over the past decade, growing from around 3,600 in 2015 to roughly 5,400 today. The increase comes as the company adapts to renewable energy projects, decentralised work, and a push for electrification. About one-fifth of its vehicles now operate primarily outside Baden-Württemberg, reflecting broader operational needs.

The company's fleet growth stems from new services, updated procurement policies, and a shift toward electric and hybrid vehicles. To support this, EnBW invests about two million euros annually in expanding its internal AC charging network. So far, it has installed around 1,400 charging points across 135 locations, serving company cars, service vehicles, and even employees' private electric vehicles.

Electrification efforts extend beyond workplace charging. The strategy includes home charging solutions with billing integration and the EnBW Mobility charging card for public use. Fleet management works closely with mobility teams to deploy battery-electric or plug-in hybrid models where they're most needed.

Behind the scenes, Norman Scheck and Vanessa Hindinger oversee mobility management and services, leading teams of 22 and 10 respectively. The company also maintains two in-house workshops for inspections and maintenance of specialised vehicles. Since 2009, EnBW has streamlined operations by closing five workshops while expanding fleet management responsibilities.

Despite the growth, detailed historical data on regional fleet distribution remains unavailable. Official reports and direct inquiries to EnBW would provide further specifics on geographical changes over time.

EnBW's fleet now stands at roughly 5,400 vehicles, with electrification and decentralised operations driving demand. The investment in charging infrastructure and tailored mobility solutions reflects a long-term commitment to sustainable transport. Employees and company vehicles alike benefit from expanded access to charging networks and maintenance support.
