Essen's Südviertel braces for two weeks of disruptive roadworks in March
Roadworks will disrupt traffic in Essen's Südviertel district over the next two weeks. Several key routes will face lane closures as utility companies carry out upgrades. Drivers should expect delays on Richard-Wagner-Straße and Rellinghauser Straße from early March.
The first restrictions begin on March 2 and last until March 6, affecting Richard-Wagner-Straße in Flöha. During this period, only one lane will remain open in each direction while crews install broadband infrastructure.
Further closures start on March 9 along Richard-Wagner-Straße in Südviertel. The right-hand lane of the two city-bound lanes at the Rellinghauser Straße junction will also shut until March 14 for fibre-optic cable work.
Near Max-Fiedler-Straße, the right-hand outbound lane will be closed until March 20. Essen Municipal Services is overseeing these utility works, though no additional phases or locations have been announced.
The lane closures will reduce capacity on major routes for over two weeks. Drivers are advised to plan alternative routes where possible. The work aims to expand broadband and upgrade essential infrastructure in the area.
