Fort Collins overhauls its bus network for faster, simpler commutes

Transfort is preparing to launch a redesigned bus network in Fort Collins this summer. The changes aim to improve service reliability, expand access, and simplify travel for daily commuters. A public open house on June 11 will give residents a chance to review the updates before they take effect. The updated system introduces a grid-based layout to strengthen high-demand routes and improve connections to key destinations. According to Transfort Director Kaley Zeisel, the goal is to make the network easier to understand and more dependable for regular trips. Officials also emphasise balancing service improvements with operational needs while ensuring access for those who depend on public transport the most.

Most route updates will begin on August 17, 2026, though Routes 14 and 18 will remain unchanged until 2027. Alongside the bus network redesign, Dial-A-Taxi voucher values will drop to $15, and the service area will expand on the same date. However, Sunday service for Dial-A-Ride paratransit will be discontinued from August 17. Existing Dial-A-Ride clients living outside the new service boundaries will still receive door-to-door transport. Residents can explore updated route maps and further details on the Transfort Optimization Plan project page. The public open house on June 11, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Downtown Transit Center, will provide an opportunity to discuss the changes before implementation.

The redesigned network and service adjustments will roll out in phases starting August 17, 2026. While some routes face delays, the updates focus on improving efficiency and maintaining essential transport links. Dial-A-Ride users outside the new boundaries will keep their current service, though Sunday paratransit trips will no longer run.
