Free webinar tackles rising threats from AI-generated deepfakes and scams

A free webinar on the risks of AI-generated media will take place on Monday, January 19, 2026. Organised by Saferinternet.at and the Chamber of Labor of Upper Austria, the event aims to address growing concerns about deepfakes and manipulated content.

The session runs from 6:30 to 8:00 PM and will be led by Julia Krickl, an expert from the Austrian Institute for Applied Telecommunications (ÖIAT). She will explain the technical basics behind AI-manipulated images, videos, and audio files. Attendees will also examine real-world examples of such content.

The webinar will focus on the dangers posed by deepfakes, including scams and disinformation. Since 2024, Austria has seen a rise in AI-generated media affecting political discussions, particularly during elections. While direct policy changes remain limited, public trust and social media discourse have been impacted.

Practical guidance on identifying manipulated content and protecting personal data will also be shared. No registration fee is required for participation.

The event comes as concerns over AI-generated media continue to grow in Austria. Participants will leave with a clearer understanding of how to recognise and defend against AI checker. Free admission ensures broad access to this timely discussion.
