Fürth braces for chaos as Nuremberg derby disrupts traffic and transit

A major Second Division derby between SpVgg Greuther Fürth and 1. FC Nuremberg will take place this Sunday, May 3, at Sportpark Ronhof Thomas Sommer. The match, kicking off at 1:30 PM, is expected to draw large crowds, leading to widespread traffic and transport disruptions across Fürth from early morning. Traffic delays will begin around 8:30 AM as fans make their way to the stadium. A security perimeter will be in place around the venue, covering Laubenweg and the area between Kronacher Straße, Storchenstraße, Frankenschnellweg, Erlanger Straße, and Poppenreuther Straße. Parking bans will also extend to Mauerstraße and Alte Reutstraße, with any illegally parked vehicles towed immediately.

Public transport will face significant changes. From 8:00 AM, bus line 179 will be diverted in both directions via Erlanger Straße and Seeackerstraße, skipping some stops. Later in the day, line 177 may also be rerouted, with trips toward Rudolf-Schiestl-Straße ending early at Kronacher Straße and alternative stops provided on Seeackerstraße. Disruptions are expected to continue into the afternoon, with passengers warned of possible delays and last-minute route changes. Fan marches are planned before and after the match, affecting key routes such as Kapellenstraße, Henri-Dunant-Straße, Ludwigbrücke, Erlanger Straße, Poppenreuther Straße, and Laubenweg. Authorities have urged spectators to plan extra time for travel and follow official guidance to avoid congestion.

The derby will bring heightened security, road closures, and transport adjustments to Fürth throughout the day. Residents and visitors are advised to check for updates on parking restrictions, bus diversions, and potential delays before travelling. The measures will remain in effect until well after the final whistle.
