Fürth unveils new bicycle boulevard along Königstraße amid ongoing upgrades
Fürth has completed a major section of upgrades along Königstraße, introducing a new bicycle boulevard and improved access for cyclists. The city has also reopened the Rathaus bus terminal to bike traffic as part of ongoing improvements. However, further work remains on the southeastern stretch of the road. The newly finished bicycle boulevard runs along the western part of Königstraße, linking Hans-Segitz-Steg to Königsplatz. This stretch forms part of Fürth’s Radvorrangroute 1, a priority cycling route that now connects smoothly to the Rathaus bus terminal. Only minor finishing touches are left between Obstmarkt and Hans-Segitz-Steg, with all remaining tasks set to conclude by Friday, May 29.
Meanwhile, utility provider infra has made progress on renewing gas and water pipelines near the Rathaus. Their work has allowed traffic to flow again in the area, though further pipeline upgrades will continue for the road’s future redesign. The project also focuses on improving traffic safety around Obstmarkt, particularly for cyclists.
Construction will soon move to the southeastern section of Königstraße, starting near the Kupferpfanne restaurant and extending to Stadttheater. This phase is expected to begin by late September. The city has noted, however, that unexpected developments could still affect the schedule. The completed upgrades now offer cyclists a safer and more connected route through central Fürth. Further improvements along Königstraße will continue, with the next phase targeting the southeastern stretch. Once finished, the project will enhance both cycling infrastructure and overall traffic flow in the area.
