GCash cracks down on QR code scams and blocks 4,900 fraudulent merchants
GCash, the Philippines’ top finance superapp, has stepped up its fight against fraud. The platform recently blocked over 4,900 merchants tied to quishing—scams involving fake QR codes. Users are being urged to stay alert and use the app’s built-in security tools to protect their accounts. GCash offers multiple security features to keep transactions safe. These include Account Secure, DoubleSafe verification, biometric logins, MPIN protection, and one-time passwords (OTP). The app also lets users check their transaction history, making it easier to spot unauthorised activity.
Users can report suspicious behaviour through official channels. For quick help, a chat agent named Gigi handles account-related questions. Live agents are available for more serious issues, such as unauthorised transactions or account takeovers.
The company works closely with regulators and law enforcement to track and stop fraud. To avoid scams, GCash reminds users to only transact through official channels and double-check website URLs before paying. Additional support is available through in-app guides and the Help Center. GCash continues to strengthen its defences against fraud. By blocking thousands of fraudulent merchants and offering multiple support options, the app aims to reduce risks for its users. Customers are encouraged to use the available tools and report any suspicious activity immediately.
