Tariff Agreement at the Federal Highway Company - German motorway workers secure 7.8% pay rise after weeks of strikes

A provisional pay deal has been reached between Autobahn GmbH and unions Verdi and dbb. The agreement follows weeks of negotiations and recent warning strikes that disrupted traffic on major routes like the A7 motorway. Employees will now see a staged pay rise over the next 26 months.

The dispute began with unions demanding a 12-month contract and a minimum monthly raise of €300. Over the past three years (2023–2025), workers had received one-off payments equivalent to €340, €280, and €300 spread across their monthly wages. This time, however, the new deal guarantees a permanent increase.

Under the agreement, staff will receive at least €360 more per month. The total pay rise will reach 7.8 percent, implemented in three stages. The contract will last 26 months, longer than the unions' initial proposal.

Warning strikes had already caused delays on the A7 motorway, adding pressure to finalise the deal. Both sides have now accepted the terms, avoiding further disruptions.

The settlement ensures a 7.8 percent pay rise for Autobahn GmbH employees over 26 months. Monthly wages will increase by at least €360, providing financial stability beyond previous one-off payments. The deal also prevents additional strike-related traffic delays on key routes.
