Price Index for Germany Ticket, Protection for Rail Staff: Transport Ministers Discuss Key Issues Affecting Millions

Germany's transport ministers tackle railway safety and ticket pricing reforms

From Wednesday, federal and state transport ministers will deliberate on a range of pressing topics, including the planned reform of driving license regulations, enhanced safety measures for railway employees, and the proposed price index for the Deutschlandticket (Germany Ticket). On Thursday, the ministers are expected to present the outcomes of their conference in Lindau on Lake Constance.

The debate over how to better protect rail staff from assaults intensified following the fatal attack on a train conductor aboard a regional service between Landstuhl and Homburg. Meanwhile, the price of the Deutschlandticket for local public transport is set to be determined from 2027 onward using a yet-to-be-finalized index that will account for personnel and energy costs as well as broader inflationary pressures.
