Google acquires no-code app builder AppSheet to boost Cloud services
Google has bought AppSheet, a no-code platform that helps users build mobile apps without coding. The deal brings the Seattle-based startup into Google Cloud, expanding its tools for businesses. Over 18,000 creators have already used AppSheet to launch around 200,000 apps. AppSheet was founded in 2014 by Praveen Seshadri and Brian Sabino. The company received early backing from New Enterprise Associates in 2015. By 2018, it was recognised as an innovative tech startup by TiE, and Forrester Research later named it a leader in low-code development in 2019.
The platform lets users design apps for data capture, teamwork, and information display. Its tools have been widely adopted, with thousands of businesses relying on it for workflow automation. Now, the AppSheet team will join Google Cloud, continuing to support their current clients while integrating with Google's services.
Amit Zavery, vice president of Google Cloud, explained that the acquisition fits Google's broader plan. The move aims to help companies automate tasks, manage APIs, and build apps more easily. Google expects the deal to reshape how businesses approach app development. The takeover adds AppSheet's no-code tools to Google's cloud offerings. Existing users will keep their services, while new features may emerge from the integration. The deal signals Google's push to simplify app creation for businesses of all sizes.
