Hesse boosts train station security with expanded Kompassbahnhof initiative

Hesse is expanding its Kompassbahnhof programme to improve security at train stations across the region. Interior Minister Roman Poseck announced the measures, describing stations as vital centres of public life. Several municipalities have already taken part in the initiative since late last year. Fulda, Hofgeismar, Hofheim am Taunus, Maintal, Neustadt, and Rüsselsheim began serving as pilot municipalities in December 2023. In Fulda, upgrades include a new CCTV system and improved lighting. A weapons ban zone has also been introduced there.

Joint patrols by federal, state, and local police are now active in Fulda. Further cooperation agreements for stations in Hungen, Herborn, Treysa, Neu-Isenburg, Heppenheim, and Bad Homburg vor der Höhe are set for the second half of 2026. The Kompassbahnhof programme will now cover more locations. The aim is to strengthen safety at key transport hubs. Additional municipalities are expected to join in the coming years.
