Snow causes delays and cancellations in public transport - Hesse’s transport chaos deepens as snow halts Flixbus routes and flights

Heavy snowfall has brought widespread disruption to public transport across Hesse. Flixbus faces the worst delays, with some routes cancelled entirely due to unsafe conditions. Trams and regional trains have also been affected, though to a lesser extent.

The winter chaos began on January 26, 2026, as snow blanketed much of the region. A spokesperson for the Nordhessische Verkehrsverbund confirmed that disruptions vary by area, depending on altitude, road steepness, and how quickly routes can be cleared. Safety concerns have led operators to halt services where travel cannot be guaranteed.

Airport delays have also been reported due to the snowfall, with some flights experiencing cancellations or significant delays. Bus networks have taken the biggest hit, with the Rhine-Main Transport Association (RMV) reporting multiple cancellations and delays, and several routes temporarily suspended. Operators stressed that passenger and staff safety remains the top priority, even if it means reducing services. Trams, however, are mostly running as planned. Regional rail services have also seen some impact, though not as severe as the bus network.

The transport delays come as snow continues to affect travel across Hesse. Bus operators are monitoring conditions closely, reinstating services only when roads are safe. For now, passengers are advised to check for updates before travelling.
