Hiiumaa ferry services to resume after week-long maintenance pause
Ferry services between Hiiumaa and the Estonian mainland have faced disruptions for the past week. The passenger vessel Leiger, operated by TS Laevad, underwent scheduled dry-dock maintenance, halting its usual route. Now, operations are set to return to normal by the end of the week.
The interruption began when Leiger was taken out of service for essential upkeep. Indrek Randveer, managing director of TS Laevad, discussed the situation with Margus Mullak, confirming the seven-day pause in connections.
In the meantime, the ferry Regula has stepped in to cover the Kuivastu–Virtsu route. However, it will take a longer detour around Hiiumaa and Saaremaa to prevent damage to newly formed ice. This temporary adjustment ensures continued, though slower, transport links.
With maintenance now complete, Leiger is preparing to resume its regular schedule. Passengers can expect normal ferry operations to restart before the weekend.
The return of Leiger will restore direct ferry links between Hiiumaa and the mainland. The detour for Regula will no longer be necessary once ice conditions stabilise. Services should run as usual by the week's end.
