Horn-Bad Meinberg station upgrade delayed until 2030 amid S-Bahn OWL expansion

Major Delay for Horn-Bad Meinberg Station Upgrade—Completion Pushed to 2030

The planned renovation of Horn-Bad Meinberg railway station has been delayed by at least a year, Deutsche Bahn has confirmed. The setback comes after no planning firms submitted bids in response to the initial tenders. The project is part of the broader S-Bahn OWL initiative.

According to a statement from Deutsche Bahn to SPD state lawmaker Dennis Maelzer, the first two calls for tender failed to attract any applicants. A planning office was only secured after a third round of bidding, pushing the projected completion date to 2030.

The upgrade includes the construction of a new central platform and an additional track. Work will also expand the electronic signal box in Lage (Lippe) and transform Lemgo station into a junction hub. These measures are tied to the development of the S-Bahn OWL network, whose first phase is set to launch in 2029 under a "wing concept" connecting the nodes of Lage and Herford. Authorities are additionally evaluating a potential new stop near Eichholz-Remmighausen.

The Lippische Landes-Zeitung reported the details, citing information from Deutsche Bahn and Nahverkehr Westfalen-Lippe (Westphalia-Lippe Local Transport Authority).
