HP's New Laptops Debut Qualcomm's Snapdragon X2 Plus at CES 2026
Qualcomm has expanded its Snapdragon X2 lineup with two new mid-range processors: the Snapdragon X2 Plus. Available in 10-core and 6-core versions, these chips promise significant performance gains over previous models. The company also revealed that major manufacturers, including HP, are already integrating the new processors into upcoming laptops.
At CES 2026, HP showcased the OmniBook Ultra 14 and EliteBook X G2, both powered by the Snapdragon X2 series. Microsoft confirmed that the first devices with these chips will run Windows 11 version 26H1, with releases expected in early 2026.
The Snapdragon X2 Plus is built on Qualcomm's Oryon 3 CPU architecture, delivering notable improvements in efficiency and power. The 10-core variant (X2P-64-100) offers a 35% boost in single-core performance and a 17% increase in multi-core tasks. Meanwhile, the 6-core version (X2P-42-100) achieves the same single-core gain but a slightly lower 10% multi-core improvement.
Memory support has also been enhanced, with 8-lane, dual-channel LPDDR5X-9523 running at 152 GB/s. Storage options include NVMe, PCIe 5.0, UFS 4.0, SD Express, and SD 3.0, ensuring compatibility with high-speed devices. While the neural processing unit (NPU) remains at 80 TOPS (INT8), matching flagship models, Qualcomm has refined the GPU and adjusted CPU clusters for better overall performance.
HP's new laptops, announced at CES 2026, will be among the first to feature these chips. Microsoft has confirmed that the Snapdragon X2-series devices will launch with Windows 11 version 26H1, though exact release dates beyond early 2026 have not been specified.
The Snapdragon X2 Plus brings faster processing, improved memory bandwidth, and broad storage support to mid-range devices. HP's upcoming OmniBook Ultra 14 and EliteBook X G2 will be the first to adopt these chips, with wider availability expected in early 2026. The processors will ship with Windows 11 version 26H1, marking a step forward in performance for next-generation laptops.
