Singschwantage invites to excursions into the Lower Odertal - Hundreds of Bewick's swans gather in Germany's Oder Valley for annual spectacle
Hundreds of Bewick's swans have gathered in the Lower Oder Valley National Park near Criewen and Schwedt. The annual event celebrating their arrival, the 17th Bewick's Swan Days, takes place this weekend (January 28–29). Visitors can spot the birds before they continue their migration north in early February.
The swans, known for their striking yellow beaks and wingspans of over two metres, have made a temporary home in the National Weather Service designated floodplain landscape. This vital resting place for migratory waterbirds is one of Europe's last intact river wetlands.
The Bewick's Swan Days event is organised by the NABU Naturschutzstation Oder GmbH. Activities include guided excursions into the national park, free between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM. There will also be talks on the swans' behaviour and craft sessions for children.
The birds will remain in the region until February 1, 2023. After that, they will resume their journey to Scandinavia, stopping briefly in the parks near me Uckermark floodplains along the way.
The event provides a chance to see and learn about Bewick's swans before their departure. Their presence highlights the Oder Valley's importance as a refuge for migratory species. The national park continues to attract nature lovers each winter for this annual gathering.
