Indore-Dahod railway project begins critical track testing on Pithampur-Dhar stretch

Track testing has begun on the Pithampur-Dhar section of the Indore-Dahod railway project. The work started on Monday and will run until March 2026, marking a key step in the line's development. Officials are pushing to complete the route ahead of its planned December 2026 opening for regular service.

The new railway line is taking shape, with the stretch from Indore to Tihi already finished. Construction between Tihi and Dhar is still underway, but progress is moving quickly.

To handle track repairs between Pithampur and Dhar, crews used a tamping machine as a temporary solution. This was necessary because tunnel work in the Tihi-Pithampur section remains incomplete. Once that section is done, parallel tunnel construction will speed up. Chief Engineer Dheeraj Kumar oversaw the latest testing phase, inspecting the track from Pithampur to Dhar using a tower wagon. This was the first time such a vehicle had been used on the new line, showing how far the project has come. The wagon checked the track's quality and stability, running at set speed limits to ensure safety. Railway officials are now focusing on opening the line up to Dhar as soon as possible. The full Indore-Dahod route is still on track for completion by December 2026.

The testing phase will last until March 2026, with the entire line set to open by the end of that year. Once fully operational, the new railway will improve transport links between Indore and Dahod. The project's next major milestone will be finishing the remaining tunnel work and accelerating parallel construction.
