Indore Metro's Robot-Khajrana route shifts underground after CM's review

Indore's Metro route between Robot Square and Khajrana Square is set for major news. The original plan for a fully elevated five-kilometre corridor has been revised under new directions from Chief Minister Mohan Yadav. The shift will see part of the stretch move underground instead.

Under the initial design, the elevated corridor was to run through Robot Square, Bengali Square, Palasia Square, and MG Road before ending at Khajrana Square. However, only 1.3 km of this stretch had been built before the breaking news were announced. The remaining 3.7 km remained incomplete.

The revised plan now limits the elevated section to Khajrana Square, with the remaining portion beyond it being constructed underground. This adjustment follows a review ordered by the chief minister. The Rs 543 crore contract, originally awarded to URC Construction, will be amended through arbitration to reflect the new route.

Work on other parts of the Metro project, including the elevated corridor from Gandhi Nagar to Radisson Square, will continue without disruption. Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited will oversee the revisions to the contract and the updated construction approach.

The changes mean a shorter elevated stretch and a new underground section beyond Khajrana Square. The revised contract will be finalised through arbitration, ensuring the project aligns with the updated route. Construction on unaffected sections remains on schedule.
