Indore's ₹412 crore railway station upgrade kicks off with grand ceremony

The foundation work for Indore railway station's ₹412 crore upgrade officially began on Thursday. MP Shankar Lalwani launched the project with a traditional ceremony and inspected the site firsthand. The ambitious plan aims to bring the station up to modern standards, matching the city's growing needs. Before this upgrade, Indore railway station lacked key facilities found in other major Indian stations. Unlike Jaipur, which has seen metro integration and electrification, Indore's infrastructure had fallen behind in passenger amenities and modernisation.

The new project will transform the station into a well-organised, passenger-friendly hub, modelled on airport standards. Excavation for the basement has already reached seven metres below platform level. Alongside this, work on the parcel building has also started.

During the launch, Lalwani instructed officials and the project manager to maintain high quality and stick to the deadline. He emphasised that the upgrade would mark a significant step in Indore's development. Dheeraj Kumar, chief engineer of Western Railway's construction division, and other senior officials attended the event. The project sets out to overhaul the station's appearance and functionality. Once complete, it will serve as a benchmark for modern railway infrastructure in the region. Officials have committed to finishing the work on time and to the highest standards.
