IPG Energy abandons generator project but keeps flameless combustion tech alive
IPG Energy has announced it will no longer pursue the commercialisation of its generator product. The decision marks a shift for the company, which had been developing technology to revolutionise power generation in diesel-reliant industries. A year ago, IPG Energy had a strong pipeline of early adopters ready to test its generators. These units, available in 50 or 100 kilowatt modules, were designed to fit inside shipping container-like structures. The company’s Flameless Combustion technology promised pollutant-free power from any fuel, a major step for decarbonisation.
Progress was made in validating fuel-agnostic, clean operation across multiple fuel types. IPG Energy also moved to an off-the-shelf e-turbocharger system from a global supplier. However, an unforeseen engineering issue emerged, limiting overall performance.
Despite this setback, the company remains committed to its core innovation. It will now focus on advancing the Flameless Combustion technology through third-party partnerships. The company expressed disappointment at not completing the final technical stage. Its work, though, has already influenced how diesel-dependent sectors approach decarbonisation. The technology’s development will continue, albeit through a different path.
