JNPA named India's top port and climbs to 22nd globally in 2025 rankings

Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) has been recognised as India’s best-performing port. It now ranks 22nd globally in the Container Port Performance Index (CPPI) 2025. The port continues to expand its capacity and sustainability efforts with major projects underway. JNPA operates five container terminals: NSFT, NSICT, NSIGT, BMCT, and APMT. As India’s largest container port, it achieved a berth occupancy rate of 75% in the latest CPPI report. Its scores also improved, with a Statistical Index of 58.9 and an Administrative Index of 138.0.

The port’s overall ranking score rose by 32 points, climbing from 66 in 2020 to 98 in 2025. This placed it 14th among the top 20 ports worldwide for the greatest improvement over five years. JNPA is also developing the Vadhvan Port project in Maharashtra, designed as India’s 13th major port and a fully green facility.

The Vadhvan Port project is expected to become one of the world’s leading maritime hubs. Alongside this, JNPA is focusing on capacity expansion, technology upgrades, and sustainable growth initiatives. JNPA’s strong performance and ongoing projects reinforce its position as a key player in global maritime trade. The port’s improvements in efficiency, infrastructure, and sustainability are set to enhance its role in India’s logistics network. The Vadhvan Port project marks a significant step forward for the country’s port capabilities.
